Part of a series of paintings on the ephemerality of life, and the possibility of redemption, even in the worst of circumstances. From an earliest age I saw animal skulls in the woods and thought there was a sweetness to them, a poignancy that transcended both the animal they used to be, and the supposed finality of the individual life. None of my friends understood this at all.
