About The Artwork
I was emotionally effected by the vast changes and drastic points of view I saw in the 2016 election. I could not believe the vitriol and prejudice I saw and encountered in people and country I thought I knew. I could feel so many negative feelings and despair. So I painted. I started with a bloody human heart, organic, fragile, and erratic in nature. Then without thinking, I stared painting a lotus sprouting from the top. The lotus is the symbol of enlightenment, wisdom, and growing even in the most muddiest of waters. So I blessed this painting as Hope. I had hope that we could come together and fight the ignorance and pervasiveness of our history to change ourselves and our future together. I chose watercolors for their transparency and ability to be concentrated. This painting was created impromptu and through reflective meditation. I hope you enjoy. Namaste.
