This work came about from my annual trip to Hornby Island with my girlfriends. It is a time I always cherish for renewal; in my friendships and in my mind, body and soul. And it is a time for growth in my creativity and art practice. In this last visit, I was particularly drawn to the beach and all the treasures it bestows upon us. I love to ramble among the driftwood and smooth rocky shores, always on the lookout for that one precious rock that begs to be picked up, held close in the palm of my hand and caressed. This body of work is my interpretation of the treasures I found on my walks. Judging from these pieces, one may think Hornby beaches are covered in rocks that comprise every hue of the colour spectrum. Naturally, that is not the case, but as an artist, I am drawn to colour. Using my intuition and imagination, I apply layer upon layer of multiple colours with a glazing medium to achieve the desired ethereal affect in this work. I see beauty in all the little details and hope that the love and enjoyment I experience in my creation process translates to the viewer.

Part of my studies at OCA included a year abroad at the college's satellite campus in Florence, Italy.  It was here in Italy that I was able to explore and get comfortable with my expressionistic style in both oil and acrylic paints.  Since then, colour and texture figure quite prominently in my paintings.   After graduating from OCA, I moved out west, got married and took a break from my painting career to settle into my new home and raise a family.  I have now lived in Whistler for over 20 years with my husband and two children.   My days are filled with spending time with my family and friends, exploring the outdoors and looking for creative inspiration. I work from my studio in Whistler, BC. My works can be found at Art Junction Gallery, Whistler and in many private collections across Canada.
