This painting is part of the "Lunar Cycle One" series. As a subject or character in art the moon has been rather neglected. New archaeological research at Knowth (3500 BC approx.), part of the NewGrange megalithic site in Co. Meath, suggests that the lunar as well as the solar cycle was of equal importance to the pre-celtic culture of Ireland. This image is actually the first in the series, along with other full moon paintings and drawings. It was overwhelming when I saw this bright line of the moon and planets glowing really brightly. It was march 2013 and cold. I later heard on the radio that there was an imminent conjunction of either Neptune and Jupiter or Mars? Mainly I had a feeling of witnessing something spectacular. I was standing in a green areas in a housing estate and wondered how many people would have missed this epic event? It did seem at the time, that the clouds had opened up just as I was at a place where I could see this lines of lights in the dark blue night sky, maybe that's an imagined feeling but it was powerful enough for me to paint this. Take some time to look at the moon its free, and very dramatic when you think that its the same moon all the people that ever existed have looked upon and it will keep passing in the sky for as long as the everythingness, epic. Enjoy.
