About The Artwork

This work is an expression of the unrealistic physical perception one has of oneself, whether positive or negative. The sense of inner satisfaction, but visually unsatisfied with what one sees in the mirror. The imbalance of looking outwardly fantastic but feeling internally ugly. Body Dysmorphia. What you see if not what she actually looks like. What you see is how she feels she looks like. This mixed media piece is a collage of fine art photo paper, acrylic gel medium, and black acrylic paint. This image of a beautiful figure is deformed and purposely misplaced, creating a fragmented, disfigured figure.

My name is Lynne Greenaway, I am a Canadian photographic artist living in the Netherlands. My obsession with photography began at the age of 12 when I was at Art Camp. I created a pinhole camera from a shoe box and I have been intrigued by light and shadow ever since. I have a degree in Media, Information and Technoculture from the University of Western Ontario. I also studied at Loyalist College, where I received a post-graduate diploma in Photojournalism. I continued my studies in New York City under the apprenticeship of world renowned celebrity photographer David La Chapelle. I have shown my work in galleries in Toronto and in the Netherlands. I have received awards and won various contests across North America. I was also the runner up in the "Naked in the House" competition on Fashion Television, Toronto, Canada. Over the past 3 years I have been focused on creating images of self-reflection, examining inevitable postpartum physical changes, introspection on becoming a new mother, and reflecting upon entering midlife. My goal is to share the results of my introspection in a beguiling way. I make use of high contrast lighting to create deep shadows and by sculpting the light I try to evoke a dramatic image. I also create print collages and canvases by mixing my print images, ink, paper, paint, and then distort them by tearing, cutting, and gluing to create a mixed media final piece. Sometimes I photograph my collages to create a final image. The focus of my art is to understand form, and to create images which encourage study and interpretation.
