Hurricane Painting

This piece was inspired by the struggle I was experiencing at the time. In the painting, there's a series of rectangular "blocks" which represent the issues that, I felt, kept getting in my way. The four around the edges surround a fifth one that looks just the same, meaning I am my own obstacle, putting focus on the fact that they all look the same as the "me" block, meaning that I am my ONLY obstacle. Two whirlpools of energy at the top right and bottom left of the piece with flowing streaks leading to the centre block representing the areas in my life that give me the strength to not only survive, but also to smile and fight back for my happiness. On top of the four surrounding blocks are pillars with green decorating them, the green symbolizing healing, which represent my growing strength against my own obstacles. Three "slashes" of paint symbolize the fight to reclaim myself; black for my mind (depression) white for my heart (all the emotions, or colours, wrapped together in one) and red for passion, power and sacrifice. My hope is that the viewer will look at the piece and find strength, and also remember to fight for what matters; happiness. Though I also do many mixed media paintings, Acrylic is my favourite medium because it's the most pliable and versatile. I was able to use both opaque pieces for painting block areas as well as watered down paint for splashing designed streaks. Abstract is a therapeutic method for me to get out the "kinks" in my energy before starting on more detailed work, though Every piece of work is equally as precious to me, because they're all expressions of me.
