I suffer therefore I am (tryptich) Painting

"I suffer therefore I am" it's a quote from the text of the russian existentialist philosopher Nikolai Berdyaev. The basis of this work is the combination of two subjects, opposite in meaning, which were popular in European art: The Temptation of St. Anthony and The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa. This is my reflection on the spiritual crisis under the dictatorship. In conditions of strong social stratification and poverty, the only thing that authoritarian power can offer a person is to revel in their suffering. This process can be facilitated by immersion in the myth of the great past. This is temptation. We see how millions of people are ready today to live these illusions, as if in ecstasy. In addition, this is my polemic with the well-known Christian postulate that truth is determined by the measure of suffering. All three paintings tell the story of preparation (left painting, 110х200 cm) for the meeting with the higher power, meeting and accepting ecstasy (middle painting, 150х200 cm) and the result of this meeting (right painting, 110х200 cm).
