About The Artwork

Alana began painting this self-portrait a few months prior to the Covid pandemic. In her known style, she uses symbolism to represent different aspects of her life. Once the pandemic hit, she shelved the painting for 5 months before finally pulling it out to work on it again. Her self portrait, titled "Identity - Who are you now?" Prompts the viewer to ask themself... How has your life changed since Covid? Do you feel like you have been silenced or have you found your voice? Has each little dream of yours fallen from the sky, as you take on new roles and identities? Or, are you soaring through these times with butterflies of excitement? Are you living in FEAR? Or, are you taking a leap of FAITH and letting those dreams FLY? Who are you now? Are you the same person you were 6 months ago?

Born to an artist family in Margaret River, Western Australia, Alana Clumeck's upbringing was surrounded by the arts from an early age. However, it wasn't until early 2014 when Alana unearthed a bounty of hidden talent, and has since built upon these skills to become a reputable artist within the Santa Barbara community where she now resides. Alana is known for her vibrant contemporary take on large game animals, equine portraits, and the cowboy culture. She enjoys capturing her subjects in their wild, raw form, portraying movement through pops of color, pattern and texture. She is completely self taught, and began painting in early 2014 while suffering from prenatal depression. During this time she found herself yearning for a creative outlet, and having never painted before, she purchased some art supplies, and painting quickly became her therapy. Three years on, Alana continues to paint with enthusiasm, constantly adding new techniques, mediums and subjects into her art. She is a member of American Women Artists and Santa Ynez Valley Artist Guild. Alana is also the author and illustrator of the horse themed children’s book, The Extraordinary Pony (available on Amazon.com). This “never give up” tale of a horse trying to find its purpose, reminds all who read it to never stop chasing their dreams - a timeless message that rings true for adults and kids alike.
