About The Artwork

Part of a series entitled Ancestral Dirt, I was thinking of different kinds of origins and relationships which led me to Prehistoric cave paintings. One depiction in particular was of a horned animal that archeologists have labeled a unicorn. Whatever the real explanation of the painting is (did unicorns actually exist like the horses and bison accompanying it on the cave walls? Did the painter invent the animal? Is it simply a side perspective of a two-horned bull?) it is a vital depiction of life in the world, man's desire to create within it and my distant, yet direct, relationship with the person who felt an impulse to scrawl pigment on the rock's surface.
