Imagine Painting

This piece is about imagination. I combined complimentary colors, allowing them to flow like my mind freely does when I create. I worked on this piece for hours, thinking about how I wanted the colors to move and expand into one another. Acrylic Inks on canvas allows this fluid momentum. The basis of this piece is based in geometry—there are shapes underneath the layers, which peak through by their color. If you look at this piece a certain way, you can see those underlying shapes of color. This is a style I do, which is something I solely created. I combine geometry with images that are more chaotic on top of the geometry base. This is my own style that I call “Geocha” pronounced G-O-KA. I derived this name from geometry and chaos, taking the first three letters of each word. What made me chose this approach? I have a brain that is both math head and art head. I have struggled in combining these two realms that are within me to express the importance of both, and how they can work together to form something beautiful. I guess it goes back to when I first noticed a flower (a Tiger Lily) and how there was symmetry and asymmetry in beauty. That Tiger Lily image has always remained with me, followed by Irises and Lilacs. These were the flowers I visited most often in my yard growing up along with crocuses and Hyacinths. It is for this same reason that moss also holds meaning to me. When viewing this piece, the viewer will notice there is crackling in parts of the image. This adds to the depth and beauty held within, like a flower, which offers a surprise when looked at closely.
