About The Artwork

This work is part of my solo exhibition- "Parthenogenesis" hosted by Alianza Cultural para las Artes de P.R., Inc. in Puerto Rico Show exhibition information: https://www.fineartpuertorico.com/parthenogenesis-exhibition-by-michelangelo-mayo https://www.fineartpuertorico.com "It's a Lie" is the third track from "Wild Mood Swings" album by the Cure that contained the lyrics: how each of us believes I've never really known in heavens unseen and hell unknown A part was used as the title and the visual reference for this work. There is a certain aura of juxtaposition with William Blake's - “God Appears & God is Light To those poor Souls who dwell in Night But does a Human Form Display To those who Dwell in Realms of day” (from Auguries of Innocence) Thus, a treatise between two wordsmiths emerges. NOTE: The mixed media work is on acid-free and pH-neutral -80 lb (82 gsm) weight. Primed and then lacquered varnished on front. It has approximately 2-inch borders for multiple framing options (standard matting, float-mount framing).

Everything in art has already been invented except the resonance of one's being in it. Art explores the depths of our humanity and emotions. It is a biological essence that makes us understand our physical and inner universe. My concepts about art creation are interlaced between my background in mixed media art and biological science. Drawing influences from the likes Henrik Drescher, Dave McKean, Ray Johnson, Diane Fenster, Robert Rauschenberg, and Mario Schifano, my work explores the synthesis of fractured images and experimental compositions of abstract textures and graphic interpretations of unexplored narratives.
