About The Artwork

There is little indication of its past, but 150 years ago the narrow strip of land on the East River waterfront was the most exclusive neighborhood in Queens. As the city grew, the sumptuous estates and public promenade were replaced by factories, a gas plant, and by Big Allis - the Con Edison generating power station that provides the Queens waterfront with its most unattractive feature. More recently, artists escaping high prices established studios throughout Long Island City and were followed by businesses and residents. The old neighborhood is once again in transition. Big Allis still casts its shadow. Acrylic on 20 x 24 in. cotton canvas. Framed with wood, matte white 0.25 inch edge frame. Signed and titled on the back. Ready to hang.

Marco Domeniconi is an Italian-born visual artist based in New York City. Before devoting himself entirely to art, he earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and worked as a research scientist and professor at CUNY and NYU. It was while teaching in these vibrant university settings that he discovered the desire to express his creative identity. He has studied digital and large-format photography at the International Center of Photography, and drawing and painting at the New York Academy of Art. Nowadays, he works with various techniques from moody, unplanned black & white photographs to energetic, colorful abstractions. Both as a painter and as a photographer, he explores the interplay between his actions – direct and indirect - and unexpected events. He has produced private showcases, and participated in exhibitions both in the United States and internationally.
