About The Artwork
The original inspiration behind this painting are the firefly squid. These delicate ocean creatures spend their lives in the depths of the ocean but at night they come up to the surface. Endowed with the magnificent ability to produce their own light their sight is mesmerizing. They use their bioluminescence to feed, camouflage and mate. And also enthrall artists... What an amazing example of a creature naturally made up of dots - it could not be a more perfect subject for someone like me, who enjoys painting with dots. That was my first thought when I saw their picture in National Geographic some time ago. The jellyfish came around later, tagged along for a while and then became their friend. Welcome to the fascinating world of bioluminescent creatures of the dark. This painting received an award in the Special Merit Category of the “Nature” art contest that the online art gallery lightspacetime.com had in July, 2015. It also received an Honorable mention award in the Members Juried Show of the Art League of Ocean City Center for the Arts in November, 2015 This is an original acrylic painting on canvas. In my paintings I take elements from the natural world and cover them with the lace of my abstract visions. Patterns, dots and lines are layered and intertwined with birds, insects, sea creatures and reptiles. The idea is to create an imaginary world that celebrates the beauty of the organic viewed through the abstract lens of the artistic eye. I like to work with vivid colors and whimsical shapes. The complex and intricate structure of my paintings strives to provide a sense of wonder and revelation for the viewer. The pieces are rich in details that invite your eyes to explore every inch of the canvas and delight in the new discoveries. As you travel through the universe of patterns, creatures and dots, you are provoked to trace the subtle flow of connections that exist between the elements of the painting. It provides a sense of rhythm and movement to the world of each piece. I find inspiration for my painting from my travels that give me a glimpse of both the beauty of nature and the variety of human cultures. It is a wonderful experience that opens up my boundaries and always presents me with a whole new plethora of images to process.
