In ancient India, at the time of marriage, the groom used to go to the bride's house in a palanquin ( carried by 4 men) to receive her and procession from Groom's side, moved along the palanquin enjoying and dancing, this ritual is still prevalent in many areas of rural India, mainly in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
