About The Artwork

This piece was not quite an accident, but it wasn't the shade of blue I thought I'd reached for. In fact, I'd only recently purchased this blue and modified it, but intended a different color for this painting. Anyway, I was pleased with the way it worked with the gentle white and gold as it marbled on the paper and blossomed into a lovely wave form. If you've seen some of my recent works, you know I find natural undulations of energy and color in natural forms beautiful. As abstractions, these forms are meditative and represent different aspects to different people. This piece is cradled on birch. The cradle is sealed and appears as natural wood on the sides. On the back are attached 20 pound weight D-ring hangers. My signature is placed vertically on the right-hand side of the painting.

'Now' is inspiring. This moment in time that we share. It is singular, and before you can acknowledge it, that moment is mere history. Beyond that, people you don't know, natural and contrived events, even theorethical physics are synergistic to my art. Also, my friends and fellow artists collaborate to some extent. Yet, I believe it is important to allow others to make their art without feeling the need to repeat what they've done. It is more difficult than most imagine to have a truly unique idea! So when I am in the studio, I do not attend art shows or museums or allow for much visual input from other artists. I do use music to help me maintain my focus. It's a long playlist that ranges from experimental and electroacoustic to classical, if we must use genres. Of course, since some of my work appears to be and/or is poured, many people think that i must be inspired by Pollack, de Kooning, Frankenthaler, Hayter, even Kandinsky. Maybe so, but not at a conscious level. Abstract expressionists may very well share the desire to share the interactive process of developing a painting that best captures 'the moment', but each has their own approach to sharing that visually. To be fair I wish for a studio like those of Pollack or Franknthaler's! Nevertheless, I thank a long heritage of artists whose works have made abstract expressionistic work accessible to non-artists. They have inspired us all, quite literally, through their actions.
