About The Artwork
Early during the coronavirus pandemic, quarantining at a friend’s family home, I found an old rocking horse decoration which evoked feelings in me of childhood comforts. The resulting painting however has a somber atmosphere. With light coming in from outside through the bars of the balcony, into a dark room and the horse’s feet basically tied to a frame, you could get the impression that the horse is trapped inside. This contrast reflects my contradicting feelings at the time of safety and nostalgia and being stuck at home.
