ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In essence, my artistic production is an approach to two major topics: the exploration of various areas of the intimate in a search for the poetic as content in itself, and the socio-political commentary, especially the one most related to Cuba, my country. of origin, regardless of the fact that I have lived outside Cuba since the end of 2011. The Island of Cuba as a geography in the sense of limited and limiting space. Emigration through certain and recurring symbols: the sea, fish, boats and passports. In addition to more universal themes such as power relations, the economic - material as an existential scourge of contemporary man of any latitude, and recently, the ironic and open commentary with symbols and icons characteristic of graphic communication through social networks. Many of my contents use the tools provided by postmodernism: I appropriate or interpret symbols and content from the history of contemporary art to support the message I want to convey. In my work the form responds to a style and in turn is a function of the idea or concept, I can dispense with the style if the message of the work requires it. I propose an art of ideas that aims to intellectually involve the recipient. I consider myself an heir to the Cuban plastic arts of the eighties, a time when my training was complemented in relation to postmodern and conceptual art and its active role within society.
