About The Artwork

A Summer storm comes up the Choptank on a hot Sunday in June. This painting was selected for "Navigation 2019" a juried exhibition at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis MD. It is also featured in the lead article "Todays Masters" by Joseph Ruzicka in Fine Art Connoisseur magazine May/June 2016. I use professional quality oil paint. The painting is varnished with Winsor & Newton varnish & is ready to hang with hooks & picture wire attached.

Lesley is an English artist currently based near Washington D.C. on the Eastern Shore. After graduating from the RCA she lived & painted in London for many years where she exhibited extensively. She moved to Florida with her American husband in 2003 where she was "blown away" by the color & the heat! She re-visited Hockney's California paintings. In 2012 Lesley moved north to Maryland where she discovered a marshy, isolated landscape that resembles Dungeness, Kent, one of her early inspirations "where the wild blue delphiniums grow along the edge of the nuclear power plant". _____________________________________ Lesley paints listening to the BBC radio streaming online. Her work is collected extensively & can be found in Australia, China & Europe as well as the UK & USA. ______________________________________ “Lesley Giles blurs the line between traditional notions of landscape and graphic arts. Giles’s exaggerated colors and stylized patterns, as seen in her striped skies, separate her from earlier artists” Ryan Grover, Curator, Biggs Museum of American Art, Delaware, May 2014.
