About The Artwork

I see people more convinced by their own opinions than ever before; I listen to them when they are unable to hear. The ability to converse, debate and discuss is being replaced by this blind-animal, instinct to fight for only what one individual believes in. Alone, we are walking down blind-alleys; when will we realise that is is too late to turn back. Furthermore I am interested in the three generational-cycle of human memory. It seems to repeat a simple pattern of isolationism then blame; a call to arms then disastrous battle and finally peace and reconciliation. Then things become too comfortable again, someone ill-suited grabs hold of the reigns of power and leads us back down the road to war again. Repeat, repeat, repeat. I hope people will study anew this image; then come back to it again and see something new. This painting is designed as a study into society at large and the individual who stares hard in the mirror day after day. There is guilt but also hope; loss but also the optimistic tendrils on reconciliation.
