About The Artwork

This is my original watercolor painting I titled “It Takes Two”. I love the flow and colorfulness of Kois. I love that they are such simple fish, but also very beautiful. I love to watch them glide around in their tank, like little floating paintings. I painted this piece to capture their peaceful movement and joyful colors. I chose to depict two Koi together because peace and joy are exponentially better shared. I created this original painting using watercolors, permanent markers, and white charcoal on an approximately 16x22 sheet of Arches 140lb Watercolor paper. Your piece arrives packaged in a protective clear bag sleeve, loosely rolled and shipped in a mailing tube. Copyright of work, including all rights of reproduction in any form, are held by the artist, Kit Sunderland. Image was photographed to represent original colors, but your monitor colors may vary the colors slightly.

I have so much fun making my work. I like to play with color, line, paper, and subject matter. I may start with watercolor or acrylic and end with charcoal, finding a place for ink in there somewhere. Each art work I make, I not only like to mix media but concepts as well. I use abstract (color blocks, swirls, vintage paper) and natural elements (Big Fat Elephants, for instance). My work is here to make you smile in the least, maybe even make your day better. I try to remember that life is one big surprise. Even if not every surprise is good, every event affects the next and so on. Even when I think I understand what I see with my eyes or believe with my head, what is going on, there's always something underneath, behind, or above is moving, changing, and planning. Just like in my paintings, relationships and colors are layered, lines and plans are convoluted, and subject matter goals are exaggerated. When I have faith that everything changes eventually, (good or bad) I can face the difficulties of life, and savor the amazing phases. Making me and my future what it is supposed to be.
