JUNGLE Painting

This piece was inspired by our desire and need as humans, for escapism. What escapism means to us individually can be very personal, but this tropical landscape is an expression of the kind of escape I look for when I close my eyes. My desire to paint a tropical landscape became stronger the more I looked into the concept of escapism. We live in a world where our human instincts and our connection with nature is constantly challenged and manipulated by the technology and profit driven culture we live in. Despite our natural draw to nature, we still seem to consider our curiosity for human advancement more important than our need to re-engage with nature. The Victorians created inner city parks as a tonic for people living in over populated cities, but in truth, this has never quite been enough. To this day we still consider ‘taking holiday’ as a luxury, as a calendar event that can often be more stress than it’s worth, but we seldom consider how important ’taking leave’ or ‘taking holiday’ is in order to foster and maintain a good, healthy and inspired existence!
