In the mythology of the late Mayans and Aztecs and American Indians, Jaguar is one of the main gods. The spotted skin of the Jaguar personified the pattern of the starry sky. In various incarnations, Jaguar was the creator god or the destroyer of the world. In this case, he took on different guises: Netzahualpilli (hungry leader) and Yaoqing (enemy). The Mayans believed that the Jaguar's supply of vitality was limitless. The American Indians called the jaguar “night wind.” According to Indian beliefs, the Jaguar was a god and. rushed along the roads like the wind of the night, swifter than the day, to bring down its wrath on the caught man. But if the victim won the fight, then the Jaguar had to fulfill any wish.
