About The Artwork
Inspired by African Art which I find sensual and earthy, I decided to paint very large pieces which enabled me to examine every part of the body in detail. The dimensions of the subject are exaggerated to reflect the sexuality and essence of woman. I chose to draw in charcoal on paper, as I could capture the inconsistencies in skin tone and painted the background in black acrylic to make the overall image appear dramatic. I decided to entitle it Jehosheba after the biblical heroine, as she was a strong, maternal woman who was willing to endanger herself to save another The work is framed in a substantial black wooden frame. Hanging hardware is included.
