A woman, her portrait. The painting "Jo Baker, Savoir ne se prendre pas au sérieux" is a tribute to Joséphine Baker, who is full of humor and doesn't take herself too seriously in this visual. Freda Josephine McDonald, known as Joséphine Baker, was an American-born French singer, dancer, actress, revue leader and resistance fighter. She was born on June 3, 1906 in Saint-Louis (Missouri) and died on April 12, 1975 in Paris. A music-hall star and icon of the Roaring Twenties, she became French in 1937, after marrying Jean Lion. During the Second World War, she played an important role in the French Resistance. She then used her great popularity to fight against racism and for Black emancipation, in particular by supporting the American civil rights movement. Following Emmanuel Macron's decision, Joséphine Baker's entry into the Panthéon has been announced for November 30, 2021.
