About The Artwork

Father (fisherman) who returns to land and daughter waiting for him in the sea with her feet. Jozef Israels (1824 - 1911) was one of the most important Dutch painters of the Hague School. He had a lot of success, which manifested itself in multiple awards and other honors. Nationally and internationally. During his recovery from an illness in the fishing town of Zandvoort he was touched by the tragedy of the simple life of the fishermen. He became internationally known for his paintings in which the fishermen were sober and restrained displayed. Israel 'pasty brushstroke, its warm colors or use of chiaroscuro effects were compared with those of Rembrandt. His work in public collections; Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (sons of the sea) and Gemeentemuseum The Hague. -Size list included: 35X 40 cm
