ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is an old and famous story. Zeus held a banquet, but the goddess of discord was not invited. She arrived at the celebration with a golden apple from the Garden of the Hesperides, which she threw into the proceedings as a prize of beauty. Three goddesses claimed the apple: Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. With Hermes as their guide, the three candidates met the shepherd Paris on Mount Ida. The three goddesses stripped naked to convince him of their worthiness. Each attempted with her powers to bribe him. Aphrodite offered Paris the world's most beautiful woman. And Paris accepted her gift and gave her the apple. In this artwork I tried to depict this beauty contest in a new way. It was important to make it with humor. Paris is sitting in his comfortable room, he looks a little like a famous football player Neymar. You can see the happy Aphrodite and unhappy Hera and Athene. Besides there are traces of presence of Hermes. In the picture you can find his feet with winged sandals. On the monitor in front of Paris are white sheep and a goats. Before the goddesses appeared, he grazes his sheep, plays online football with them. And now his hand is reaching for the apple to convey it to the smiling forever young Aphrodite.

Contemporary Austrian artist of Russian origin, Elena Vostryakova works with themes such as beauty, femininity, movement, the environment and the power of nature. She embodies her ideas through painting, collages of old painted paper and found objects, clay sculptures. As the daughter of an artist but self-taught, she seeks spontaneous, intuitive work, free from the intrusion of criticism and control. Her works are characterized by expressive lines and shapes, influenced by different cultures, and the combination of figurative and abstract elements. Elena always pays homage to her muse, Creative Wise Nature, by mixing shapes and materials and finding new uses for them. Her greatest achievements in art have come from a source of intuition and self-education, guided by inspirations from the natural world.
