Collection: SAY CHEESE! A new vision of Pop art, as a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular culture such as advertising and news. Material is visually removed from its known context and combined with unrelated material as the aluminium. Pop art employs aspects of mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects. One of its aims is to use images of popular: the banal or kitschy, most often through the use of irony. TECHNIQUE: ACRYLIC AND LACQUER ON METACRYLIC POLYMER I created these paintings using a personal development of the old technique of "reverse glass painting". The works are painted on the reverse side of a Plexiglas ("metacrylic") canvas, with the final image viewed from the front. First, the foreground has to be painted and then the background. The innovation in my approach lies in the use of Plexiglas rather than glass plates, and in the use of acrylic and enamel paint rather than oils. This approach allows for more opportunity to play with the transparent qualities and graphical detail available while increasing the paint adherence and the archival life of the work.

Maria Bejarano, with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, continued her artistic curriculum in different schools of Italy and Great Britain. She has had numerous exhibitions in national and international art fares. Her works of art can be found at the National Library, Seville Town Hall, Ibercaja or Cajasur Banks among other relevant private and public institutions. She currently lives and works in Madrid, searching new trends on artistic communications in new resources with industrial materials such as aluminium and metacrylate. MARIA BEJARANO; Se formo en la Universidad de Sevilla prosiguiendo sus estudios en escuelas de Italia y Reino Unido. Durante su trayectoria ha expuesto en numerosas exposiciones y ferias nacionales e internacionales, su obra se encuentra en colecciones como la Biblioteca Nacional, Ayuntamiento de Sevilla, IberCaja o Cajasur entre otras. Actualmente desarrolla su trabajo en Madrid donde reside, buscando en nuevos soportes de caracter industrial como el aluminio y especialmente el metacrilato nuevos lenguajes plasticos.
