About The Artwork
Single palmette inspired by a Byzantine palmette motif that can be seen inside Constantine Lips Monastery Church in Aksaray, Istanbul. It’s known that Byzantine craftsmen painted the sculptural elements inside churches. Palmette motifs were usually painted with green, red or purple. This painting appropriates an ancient motif and reverse its color assumption to its contours. Red as a primary color fills the space surrounding the motif.
