Keep the Change, 50x60cm Oil on Canvas In what currency does happiness trade? This painting was inspired by the book 99 Francs by Frederic Beigbeder. Where the author is talking about the importance of advertising in our society and how advertising defined what we own as what we are. The author explains in this very cynical book how we are all victims and partners in crime of this society’s pattern we are all living in. The author explains the book was called “99 Francs” to underline how it isn’t so much about what we are buying but about the label on the item. Which is also a statement we could also make about art. All my paintings are accompanied by a small hidden handwritten text with the ideas that motivated the composition. It is a way for me to connect with the person who has connected with the piece.

Marie Aubeline Hiot is an artist working with multiple mediums, primarily drawing and painting, and with an influences from poetry and the beauty of the everyday life. “My artistic language consists of extracting graphic and simple images from everyday life, often naive. I like the subjectivity that an image can bring, and play with it. We go through so much in life without being able to realise the mundane beauty. I love to highlight it” Marie was born and raised in the South-West of France, where she studied design. In 2017, she decided to come to Australia, since then she has made Sydney her permanent home.
