About The Artwork
This painting features lotus flowers in full bloom, with some koi fish swimming about nearby. It is hand painted using traditional Chinese brush strokes in watercolour. On the top left corner reads "Jin Yu Man Tang" (From Lao Tzu, refers to richness in knowledge and/or prosperity), which is written in Chinese calligraphy, followed by the artist's seal. It comes mounted on a wall hangable scroll, can also easily be remounted and framed. Lotus is a popular subject in Chinese paintings and it has been a divine symbol since ancient times. It represents purity of the body, speech and mind. In Asian cultures, lotus is the embodiment of elegance, grace, beauty, perfection and harmony.

Song Fusheng (Lao Deng) is a known artist of contemporary traditional Chinese brush painting. He is specialised in bird-and-flower works and best known for his watercolour paintings of the grey herons, lotus and eagles. Born in Baoding, Hebei province in 1958 in north China, Song has shown great interest in painting since he was little. After graduating from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Song furthered his study from a number of great contemporary masters of Chinese brush painting, including Li Kuchan and Qi Liangchi (son of Qi Baishi).
