About The Artwork

Feminine energy has different forms and phases, like the moon. There are productive moments and other introspective ones; fast and others slow; of strength and others of vulnerability; of magic and others of calm; of light and others of darkness. It is important to embrace the degree of these contrasts, thus feeling and responding according to the carnal and astral body. However, I feel that the pace in the city is at a constant trot. It is virile and does not stop, with predominantly masculine energy; and it makes sense, since it comes from the patriarchal lineage. I see the rhythm and feel a horse galloping without pause, and I, a woman who rides it bravely, however I can. So I continue, and I hold on to him, even though sometimes I am inverted, contorted or drained. As I go through the first year of motherhood, I discover how wonderful and demanding it is. It demands great energy that is often dissonant with the yang tune in which we are immersed. There are times in my cycle that I am a centaur who breastfeeds, plays and paints with magical energy. There are others in which I must wake up to ride the frenetic rhythm with my face twisted and my body bent, because time does not wait. The baby's demands, the deadlines, the rent, and the -supposed- success do not wait. Ideas don't wait either, they go with those who put them into action. The horse of my dreams is magnificent, it is beautiful and powerful, it takes you to unimagined places; but don't wait. That's what I feel, in some phases splendid and synchronized, and in others misaligned and alienated from the horse's rhythm. But I continue, I follow the structure and its routine. I ride it because it is what it is; the feminine continually inhabiting the fabulous and exhausting masculine compass. That is my question, the rhythmicity of the bodies. Understand from my feeling the rhythm of the system in which I find myself. Perhaps it is the horse compatible with the feminine.

I conceive art as a flexible practice in eternal process, from which my limits mutate. In my artistic practices I try to expand my body perception. Thus, through various visual and performative means, I seek to notice myself as a body that becomes constantly interdependent with the movement that surrounds me. Much of my work has revolved around dance; above all, genres with a mixed sound, such as salsa. I like to be part of salsa environments since the codes change, the evaluations mutate and the language becomes purely corporal. Thus, art becomes an incitement to delve deeper into the idea of being a body in continuous evolution, intertwined along lines with the events of the world. Which involves understanding myself from practices that allow me to obtain an embodied, situated and dynamic view by noticing the multiplicity of my experience.
