My father was born without ears. After much suffering and 36 operations he had his ears reconstructed and his hearing improved. When I finished this painting, after watching a Mexican movie where an ear is mutilated, I knew immediately that it was a tribute to his struggle.

Néstor Lobato was born in 1971 in Buenos Aires. He signs his works as Lobato Garabito, adding his maternal surname. In 1979, he entered the "Carlos Morel" Municipal School of Fine Arts. In 1991 he graduated as a National Master of Drawing at the “Manuel Belgrano” School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. He trained in the workshops of Ignacio Colombres and Ernesto Pesce, and did a workshop with Daniel Santoro. In 2009 he was selected in drawing for the “Manuel Belgrano” Salon, C.A.B.A. Among his distinctions, the following stand out: First Prize in the “200th Anniversary of the French Revolution” Painting Contest, of the French Embassy in Argentina (1988); Special Jury Prize, Tribute to Paloma Alonso (1990); First Prize at the Berazategui Autonomy Hall (2003); Third Prize at the Benito Quinquela Martín Painting Salon (2007); First Prize, Tribute to Arturo Jauretche, National University of Florencio Varela (2015). Since 1984 he has participated in group exhibitions in Argentina, Ecuador, Spain, France and Germany. His last individual exhibition “A su lado azul” closed on May 27, 2023 at Fundación Pasaje 865, San Telmo, C.A.B.A. “Mini Retrospective” at the Arturo Jauretche National University has been permanently open since 2017 in the annex of said faculty. He lives and works in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
