• On April 16, 2016, a 4-year old white rescue labrador from Ecuador named Dayko made headlines after he used his nose to find 7 people trapped in the rubbles of buildings that collapsed when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the coastline town of Pedernales, and killed over 600 people, sent 12,000 missing, and caused $3 billion in property damages. • Dayko’s heroic act led me to use multi-media techniques to paint the abstract, but sadly the exhausted Dayko died of heart attack right on the spot. • The fact that I painted Dayko black and not white might make you question my color selection. • The Answer? To remind me of my own black labrador who chose to desert me many years ago, after he fell for the smell and seductive heart of his flirtatious young yellow female counterpart. • Since I don’t need to see that yellow captor anymore, I decided to paint the abstract backdrop in her color, if only to give me sunshine until her memory leaves the shelters of my mind. • And by hanging the painting in front of my gallery door, I hope it would attract a stray young black labrador looking for a dog foster father. • In case he shows up on Halloween trick-or-treating, I’ll call 311 and tell the cop to come up ready with a hand cuff unlocked.
