Continuing in my series of paintings that portray cut glass and Mexican hammered copper and silver. When I was a child, my parents took me and my three siblings to Patzcuaro, Mexico where they purchased beautifully crafted hammered copper which I would stare at on our long drive home. I would watch how the copper gleamed under different lighting and was in awe at how an object that was one color could show so many more colors in its reflection. This obsession of mine was the same with our crystal and pieces of Mexican silver plate. I was often given the duty of using brass cleaner to clean our brass and copper and silver cleaner to clean the few pieces of silver we owned. My mother would always say that I was taking too long or "dawdling" at my chores, but it was because I was observing the many colors I would see as I submersed these pieces under water and under the different lights and shadows. I named this piece "Ladies and Gentlemen", to continue my series and because these pitchers (the copper and silver) remind me of two beautiful Hispanic women, shapely, bold, bright, glamorous and above all other women in a crowd, elegant, seductive, and with them, three handsome and equally striking Irishmen, dressed to complement their female companions. (Waterford crystal made in Ireland). I hope this piece will evoke good feelings of a time when we were younger, or when we were able to get dressed up in our best and go out to enjoy and evening out, perhaps the symphony or a lovely play or art gala. This piece is painted on canvas over a wood stretcher board so it hangs beautifully and easily on only two screws or sturdy nails.
