This work was completed in the summer of 2019 in my studio on the Southside of Chicago. I made this work right before I leave to embark on a 3 MFA at the University of Wisconsin Madison. This painting was made through processing many different daily emotional experiences and is meant to convey a complex patina of many-layered paintings within this painting.

Tony Duvall lives and works in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the Southside of Chicago. He creates his work as a means of immediate expression through meditative undercurrents of humor and lust. The work has transitions from figurative to abstracted emotive states evocative of childlike existence in nowness and novelty. Forms are pushed through a process of decay and excavations as the canvas collages build up and tear down, stitch and pull similar to the process of biological decay as it passes through the ecosystem. Each painting takes between 1-2 months of studio time before they're resolved. Artifacts from the studio as well as mediums such as: oil, acrylic, pastel, oil pastel, graphite, gel, spray paint, gauche and charcoal are used to create contrast in material and form.
