About The Artwork

The matter, the selection of materials which will conform the work is essential in my work. In this occasion I start off a grey dyed paper, the colours loose shininess and helps me to express the wished landscape. The work of art is made over thick paper and it is presented without a frame. I recommend that each one frames it with the frame that each one likes the most but with depths so that the work is presented hung up. It is recommended that a shining glass is used, not mate.

Hello, my name is Edurne Gorrotxategi (born 1965).

The aim is to provide all of you with a way to keep in touch with me and let you know about my work, which is basically an attempt to portray my world through my paintings. Matter is the starting point to show and make my experience known.

As a child I was always encouraged to develop my artistic skills, so I studied drawing and the use of colours from various sources until I finished my degree in Arts at the University of Bilbao. I specialised in Restoration and Preservation of Art Works; therefore, the interaction of materials, their qualities and characteristics are key elements in my work.

My professional career has developed basically in two directions. As far as artistic restoration is concerned, I have always tried to be faithful and respectful to the authors original artistic purpose. As a painter I have also tried to be faithful to my own views when portraying my inner world. Currently I keep on working in both fields in my studio in Getxo (Bizkaia, Basque Country).

I sincerely look forward to your opinions and comments.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER

Edurne Gorrotxategi (b.1965)

After finishing her degree in Fine Arts at the University of Basque Country (Bilbao) in 1989, she worked in the restoration of altarpieces in several churches: San Pedros Church (in Loiu, Bizkaia), Our Lady of Begoas Church (in Bilbao, Bizkaia), Santa Maras Church (in Ondarroa, Bizkaia), San Vicentes Church (in Bilbao, Bizkaia), San Martns Church (in Briviesca, Burgos), Christ in San Severinos Church (in Balmaseda, Bizkaia)

While she kept on developing genuinely creative aspects of her career as a painter, she received an offer from the Town Council of Basauri (Bizkaia) both to create several designs which would eventually be carried out as huge mural paintings in different locations in the town and to coordinate the working team in charge of carrying them out. The project amounted to a total of ten mural paintings.

In 1995 she started ARTEBI, an art gallery that aimed at being a platform for the promotion of young artists and their work.

In the last years she has devoted herself to the development of her artistic career in her studio in Getxo where she prepares exhibitions and carries out professional orders.
