This piece is part of an ongoing series of aging floral paintings and drawings. One day at Lake Tahoe I was thinking about how it might look in the distant future. I had the cynical thought that we may have to experience nature from bunkers that shield us from the environment. Maybe there would be 'portholes' through which we'd view natures gifts. The black 'transfer' images are taken from old books on plant pathology and a book on mechanical movements published in the 1880s. The surface of the 'wall' is made of wooden slats filled with plaster and sanded. The lead at the bottom comes from an old building. The support consists of 5/8" plywood with built up plywood braces. The title "LFDM" is short for 'Les Fleurs du Mal,' the book of poems by Charles Baudelaire. When I began this series I was having trouble coming up with a name... a friend sent a copy of the book to me after seeing some of my works... so I stole the title.

United States
I went to school on the GI bill after I came back from Vietnam. I taught art at various venues and was artist-in-residence in Colorado and Nevada before settling in for 12 years teaching at a community college on the US/Mexican border. Today I live on an acre of land north of Reno with my 2 dogs, 2 cats, and wonderful wife. When I'm not making art I'm probably picking on my guitar, pulling weeds or tending the garden, drinking excellent coffee (...or Scotch,) or watching movies and tv series on the tube with my wife and 2 dogs. Life is good.
