About The Artwork

My visual interest of transparent objects, realism, spacial ambiguity, abstraction, picture plane, multiple vanishing points and perceptual perspective at times may make the viewer a bit uncomfortable but visually stimulating. This is my main visual problem I am trying to achieve-“give the viewer a visual experience they have not seen”. The glass vases ,blue, orange cords, tools, mirror, painted cups, larger then life images seem be to be floating in space. The viewer feels as if they can place their hand into the picture and the feeling they are able to push, catch, touch the the objects as they are see on a flat picture plane.

Paul Gibson Statement 2008 for the Andrea Schwartz Show 2008

The title of the show, "InSideOut," has to do with comparison, contrast, and ambiguity. Through the act of painting, I investigate and question the significance and meanings of ordinary everyday objects and in so doing invite viewers to participate. These objects are presented for examination, isolated against abstract backgrounds and absent from context, to be reflected on not only in terms of what they represent, but also in terms of value and consequence.

So much has to do with personal interpretation. Is it really what you think it is? Or is it something else? In the case of two disparate objects, what is their relationship, or does one even exist? These paintings set the stage for contemplation, analysis, and perhaps even a deeper understanding and appreciation of the things that surround us.
Paul Gibson inspirations are Jim Dine, Lucian Freud, Wayne Thiebaud and many others.
