About The Artwork

Sculptor and painter. He started his exhibition activity as a sculptor in 1973, at age 16. In that first exhibition (Sala Ocher, Caracas), his pieces seemed, according to Juan Calzadilla, more open "to material expressiveness, rather than the virtuosity of form" (1973). In 1977 he receives the Pepino Acquavella Prize at the V National Youth Hall of Caracas. At this time he studies at El Cegra with teachers like Manuel Espinoza and Alirio Palacios. In 1978 he received a scholarship from the French government and traveled to Paris, studied sculpture and engraving at the School of Decorative Arts in Nice (1978-1980), at the School of Fine Arts in Paris and later in graphic arts at the School of Decorative Arts. At the same time, he completed internships at the School of Fine Arts in Paris with the sculptor Étienne Martin, one of his most influential teachers. In 1981 he returned to Venezuela and studied at the Neumann Institute until 1983, when he resumed his studies at El Cegra, to graduate in 1984. Born in Caracas in 1957. An integral Venezuelan artist, he began his exhibition activity as a sculptor in 1973, at the age of 16. Performs an internship at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. Attend the workshops of renowned artists: Etienne Martín and Carlos Cruz Diez, in Paris. Course workshops with plastic artists: Antonio Lazo, Alirio Palacios, Edgar Sánchez, Luisa Palacios, Manuel Espinoza and Luisa Richter. He made the illustration of a book by the renowned writer Hector Mujica "Scriptures for a book of a Good Love", in the year 1978. They have written texts about his work among others: Carlos Cruz Diez, Juan Calzadilla, María Elena Ramos, Roberto Guevara, Víctor Guedez, Belgium Rodríguez, Laura Antillano, Milagros Bello, Lenelina Delgado, Lorenzo Batallan, Juan Carlos Palenzuela, Susana Benko, Carlos Silva, Federica Palomero. He conducts internships at the Cándido Millán Workshop in Caracas. He worked as a professor of Sculpture and Painting at the Federico Brandt Art Institute, of Children's Creativity at FUNDARTE and of Painting at a Private Institute of Basic Education in Caracas. He has given a seminar at the University Institute of Advanced Plastic Arts Studies Armando Reverón (IUESAPAR).
