About The Artwork

I painted eight canvases, one for each of the green spaces that are being developed. They were conceived as precious ‘tokens’ and were covered front and back with deep red paint signifying the corporeal body. Distressed gold leaf was then applied to the sides and backs in order to signify the value that is being eroded. Each canvas has its’ own earth coloured velvet bag, lined in a delicate lawn of blue flowers and closed with a red tab with a unique glass bead. The canvases were originally designed to be held and passed round, giving the viewer a sense of connection and ownership. Six are now framed in box displays with distressed gold frames and lined in red velvet. The two remaining unframed ones, with their storage bags, allow the collector to share contact with their guests.

I had a nomadic childhood. Once I worked out that I had been to 17 different schools which were spread halfway across the world. When we were in England we lived in an old rectory near Banbury. Here time had moved slowly where it's contents had been added over the previous 200 years with little being taken away. So with original art on the walls and without a television we learned to develop other interests. Painting and drawing became important to me and I went to Art School. A life time later and I am now rooted in the village of Eynsham and still in Oxfordshire. This village and it's life has become my inspiration. I am known for my paintings of Morris dancers, who, as archetypes, are gods of a modern village. Recently I painted a series, using dancers to illustrate the 'Seven Deadly Sins'; much to their amusement. This series was featured In a Folk Festival at the Ashmolean, Oxford. Now I am painting landscapes that explore new meanings for changing spaces. These will go on exhibition during the Oxfordshire Artweeks Festival of 2018. I also work under commission painting and drawing portraits especially wedding couples.
