About The Artwork
The painting was inspired by a photograph the artist took at the Basel Zoo. From an inside observation point, vines grew over a window looking onto the lion’s enclosure. Visually it reminded the artist of a drape or veil, which separated the inside from the outside. For Robin Ballard the painting illustrates both night and day, realistic forms and the abstract. The painting is part of the artist's Habitat series, which is a celebration of trees, plants, botanical forms and animals. “Lion's Den”, as with all of Robin Ballard's work, is stretched on a frame and is easy to hang.
