Lion1 Painting

Artist quality oil on Professional Linen Canvas I took on the challenge of painting the Kings of the Animals. It look me a while to find the most suitable inspiration. Wildlife photographer Hannes Lochner captured the essence of what I wanted to convey. His photograph captured the Lion, its confidence and pride, but also its vulnerability. There are many Lions in this work, it had many faces, the young adolescent, the Cosmic, the very confident, but to name a few. What started as an attempt to create a photo realistic artwork, took me on the journey of the Lion, and I could not quite capture it's essence, as I wanted to. And I was left staring into those eyes, the confrontation with humanity and it's choices, and a deep sadness.
