Living Skull no. 13, Oil on Board Painting

My new body of work consists of a series of portraits of skulls, both human and animal, that depart from macabre convention. Rather, I have presents the skull as full of life and vitality. The skull has a very beautiful structure and form and I wanted to imagine it in a new way; a way that celebrates living and confronts death. The use of a Technicolor palette and sensitive and energetic brushwork, create a series of images of psychological intensity and provocation that draws on a wide range of influences. Ultimately, this new work focuses on the relationship between life and death and the constructed fears that surround it.
