Painting: Oil, Graphite, Acrylic, My works are layered, as I drip paint, scrawl words and mix mediums including oil, pencil, marker, plus house paint and acrylics. My gestural abstracts and abstract expressionism pieces are an exploration of histories, both personal and shared, and are inspired by nature, pop culture, architecture, political issues, and postmodern alienation. I want to reach an essence and pureness and authenticity beyond superficial levels of meaning. I have a very clear imagination of the approximate. Working with opposites, I mix abstraction with the tangibility of the visible world. My main objective is the quest for a new beauty in the contradiction of our reality. I frequently listen to various styles of music while painting for inspiration. As it is with a good poem, the poetical sound, the lyrical vibe, needs to ignite the reader. The semantic level can gradually get discovered. Ambiguities are to be tolerated and withstood – it should not be too comfortable. If I immediately know what’s going on, it is getting boring. A painting should remain a mystery. Randy Groden began to paint when he was young. When he was 18 years old, he made a studio in his apartment and began to copy paintings that he would see during his frequent visits to the Dallas Fine art Museum and in the art books he would collect to learn the techniques of the masters. He also studied under a number of Fine Artists. He survived and paid his rent doing portraits and Caricatures around Dallas. Then he traveled to Nashville,TN, Cincinnati,OH, St. Louis,MO, Atlanta, GA and Madera Beach, FL, drawing and painting to continue making a living. For a few years he owned a small gallery of his artwork in the artsy downtown area of Dallas, Tx. Then over the next number of years he traveled to live and operate his own Gallery for a decade in tropical Hawaii and then moved to beautiful Bend Oregon, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. In pursuit of furthering his artistic knowledge Groden explored Lisbon, Portugal, Crete, Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Corfu, Milos, and Rhodes Greece, Pompeii, Rome, The Vatican, Sicily, Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Milan, Naples, and Bologna, Italy, Barcelona Spain and Monaco. All to add to the richness of his works. He is now a hot, emerging artist whose sketch’s, oils and watercolors at times go for high prices. Although this is precisely what makes the art market baffling to outsiders the value of art of course depends on its aesthetic value; a picture you enjoy looking at on your wall. His paintings are recognized as desirable in todays art market. Google Randy Groden for more information about Randy Groden and his work.
