'Loose Change' Oil on canvas 24 x 20 inch Harland & Wolff 1949. Queens Road Belfast. I travelled the same road each day to the steel yards further down from this location some 20 or so years after this event. Most of my work relates to memories, this does too. The apprentice plater bottom right Tommy Kelso has lost his fare home, he looks towards the plating sheds on Hamilton Road where he has just finished work for the day. Hoping to spot a pal to help him out. Meanwhile Hughie Thompson bottom left walks back searching for Tommy’s lost tram fare. Franko wearing a navy blue coat & just about to board the tram looks back on Tommy’s plight calls out that he will pay his fare. John Dornan standing on the tram way looks down and sees Tommy’s cash. I (3rd up from extreme bottom left and with side face profile) spied the loose change too & call out to Tommy. Painted on triple primed medium grain stretched slimline canvas with edges painted as part of the scene. Finished in a soft sheen art varnish to avoid the glare from electric lighting or strong sunlight. Strung and ready to hang. No need for framing.
