About The Artwork

Lourdes Fisa was born in Barcelona in 1964. She is an artist with a long career, recognized both nationally and internationally. She graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, after specializing in engraving, and then continued her studies at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig, Germany; at Wilkey's Moor Print Workshop, Ivybridge, England, and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, USA. He began his exhibition career in 1989 and to date has regularly presented his work both nationally and internationally, with more than fifty solo and eighty group exhibitions in cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Bilbao, Paris, Luxembourg , Lisbon, Braganza and Chicago, among others. He has received several awards such as the Enciclopèdia Catalana Graphic Works Award (2003), the Donart Award (2012), the Current Art Project “Art Vigent” at MATBC (2015) and his work is present in important institutions such as the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel; Collection of the Vila Casas Foundation, Barcelona; Joan Flasch Artist Book Collection, Chicago; Collection of Contemporary Graphics at the National Library, Madrid; the CaixaWitnesses Collection or the Catalan Encyclopèdia Collection. Throughout her artistic career, Lourdes Fisa has developed a very personal methodology and iconography, as well as a distinctly architectural style. He builds his paintings in rich layers of boldly structured brushstrokes, fragments and marks. The resulting different, but consistently eroded surfaces present the viewer with a multilevel world of signs and meanings.
