About The Artwork

Monochrome landscape evoking the St. Lawrence River near Quebec. Made with a spatula and brush, it is through the nuances and variations of tonality that the perspective and the relief of the surrounding hills are perceived. Through the gestures and the pressure exerted on the spatula, the artist manages to create a granularity allowing the deployment of a host of details that can be interpreted by the observer. The work is minimalist because no element is superfluous, because the forms result only from a few large spatula strokes on the canvas and the diffuse shadows are created only by dilution of the medium. The use of black and white here heightens the emotional impact released by the perspective of this large natural space and by the subtleties of the movement of water. The artist finds in the zen approach, associated with the sumie technique, a spontaneous, intuitive and free freedom of movement.

Creation fascinates me. This strange process at the origin of everything, which builds this world from which consciousness emerges. When I draw or paint, I have a deep feeling of being carried away by this process. I surrender to it and from this momentum emerges an intuitive and free movement. The aesthetics of my works are developed through composition, perspective, colors and light. The realization takes place in spontaneity and is expressed by gesture. The colors harmonize on the canvas. The work vibrates with its tones. Nature is an important source of inspiration for me. Painting landscapes allows me to come into full contact with her, physically and spiritually, in peace and calm. The creation of my black and white works is strongly influenced by sumi-e. http://www.sumi-e.it/fr/quest-ce-que-le-sumi-e/ The result is refined works where emptiness becomes form and where space creates perspective. I use water a lot. She is my accomplice in the creation of natural textures and shades. I paint horizontally for better fluid control. By combining the effects of water with my gestures with the spatula and the brush, I reproduce the forms of nature leaving room for the interpretation of the observer. In addition, this also leads me to explore alternative ways of presenting landscapes from my imagination and my environment, in color or in black and white. The approach is very scalable.
