Born in London in 1992, Graceland studied Fine Art and History of Art at Hampstead Fine Arts, gaining a Bachelor's degree in 3D Digital Design and Animation. The skills she amassed throughout her degree heavily influence the technical side of her artwork. Graceland’s work is bold, playful, colourful, and full of hidden symbols and narratives waiting to be deciphered by an eager eye. Her work may look optimistic and happy, but it often hides darker narratives, tackling issues such as the dangers of materialism and consumerism, whilst also incorporating influences and symbols from art history. Best known for her bold use of colour in her vibrant illustrations and paintings which depict the darker side of human consumption, Graceland’s art visualises self obsession and displays self questioning quotes. Graceland developed a love for art as a child, always favouring vivid use of colour. Her style is predominantly contemporary and humorous, but subtly influenced by the historical religious symbolism in Italian Renaissance and Flemish art which she studied in art school. She explores scenes of how we, as human beings, consume vices in life to feed our inner egos and tells stories through symbolism. The characters in her artwork depict the many types of emotions we feel and in turn the facades we display to the rest of the world.
