About The Artwork

This was the largest canvas I've painted to date. I started it about six years ago, where it sat on an easel with only the face painted and the rest just roughly sketched. I had a friend tell me it reminded him of his ex-wife.... not sure it was a positive comment or not until he told me she was beautiful. A pose from a fashion magazine inspired the painting, but it has morphed so far from my original vision since I started it. I knew I wanted to incorporate lemurs into the painting because I have a recent obsession with them, but I had no idea how I was even going to design the rest of the painting. At one point, I was even thinking of painting over the entire painting and starting over until we were quarantined during Covid. I suddenly looked at it with fresh eyes and finally knew how I was going to complete it. I posted my progress on social media, and was contacted by someone who was interested in buying the uncompleted painting. I was flattered, but I suggested they wait until I was done before they made the commitment to purchase. After working many hours for days to finish it, the painting was purchased, and after varnishing and proper drying time, the painting was shipped to Florida to a very happy buyer. I believe that some work just needs to "ferment" and when it's ready to be completed, it will speak to the artist. Nothing makes me happier than to bring joy to someone through my art.

My love for fashion has been part of my life from a very young age. I love nothing more than drawing the female form in fashion that I envision as well as those that are inspired by clothing designers. Eyes are the window of the soul and each face I create is like creating someone new filled with emotion that I hope connects with the viewer. They are not alive, yet to me in a way they are. I didn't teach myself to draw, I always just knew how to draw from how I see the world as well as from my visual memory. I also create art that focuses on the bond we share with animals in a variety of mediums- pastel, watercolor on paper, and acrylic on canvas. Many times my work will be created using mixed media.
