About The Artwork

This piece is inspired by a portrait of Madame Isaac De Thellusson, a French noble woman, by French Baroque-Rococo artist Nicolas De Largiliere in 1725 who also had portraits commissioned by both the French and the English monarchy, notably King Louis XIV, and King Charles II My intention with this piece is to connect back in time to both the sitter and the artist, reimagining the painting from a fresh perspective, adding some of my own personality into the mix. The painting is on mountboard (heavy card) and comes unframed so you can choose your own frame to suite your home interior. The framed image is provide as an example. Please frame under glass. The painting is shipped very well packed, flat on a hardboard panel. Artist Statement There is something truly astounding about the way a horse can be transformed from a calm and seemingly domesticated creature, one moment, into an explosion of power and wired emotion, the next. I find this unpredictability and expressiveness, fascinating and a great inspiration in my work. Historical representations of the equine form are another major source of inspiration for me and am particularly interested in the symbolic, mythological and sacred place the horse has held, throughout history. I enjoy experimenting with a variety of different media and techniques, always seeking to create new and interesting surface textures, with the feeling of almost excavating the subject from the work surface. Ellie Burelli is the "nom be plume" for the artist otherwise known as Ellie Hesse. Background Ellie was born in New York in 1972, grew up in the UK, spending her happiest childhood moments riding her pony on the Yorkshire moors. Entirely self taught, Ellie has been working successfully as a professional artist since 2001. Her work is on show at a number of galleries and art fairs across the UK and Internationally.
